If you’re dreaming of a lush greenery, peaceful water, and a relaxed outdoor feel, Freedom Park is one of the first parks for maternity photos in Charlotte that popped up in Google. Freedom Park is HUGE! With nearly 100 acres of space, walking trails, and a scenic lake at it’s beautiful center, it gives you a little bit of everything.
Pros:
- Beautiful lake views and open fields
- Variety of backdrops in one location
- Easy access and very popular
Cons: To be honest, most photographers hate Freedom Park. The parking is horrendous, the colors clash and when its busy, it’s impossible to get the right shot.
- Can get crowded, especially on weekends
- Lighting can be tricky mid-day
Why moms love this location: Freedom Park feels natural and effortless. It’s perfect if you want those glowing, “walking hand-in-hand at sunset” moments. Plus, there’s enough space that if you decide on a outfit change you can do different looks in one session.
Distance from Uptown Charlotte: Less than 2 miles
If you’re looking for something more intimate and feminine, McGill Rose Garden is a hidden gem. With over a thousand rose bushes and charming walkways, it creates a soft, romantic backdrop that feels straight out of a fairytale.
Pros: The McGill Rose Garden may be the most underrated garden in Uptown Charlotte. I’ve personally shot weddings, engagements, family sessions and yes, maternity sessions here. Its quiet, beautiful and FREE.
- Stunning floral backdrops
- More private and cozy feel
- Perfect for elegant, feminine photos
Cons:
- Smaller space compared to parks.
- Limited peak bloom seasons.
- Tricky availability during wedding season.
Why moms love this location: This spot is all about softness and beauty. If you’re envisioning flowy dresses, delicate poses, and dreamy vibes, this is one of the best maternity photoshoot locations in Charlotte. With their location right outside of Uptown Charlotte, I always encourage my expecting moms to use this as their second location during their maternity photoshoot.
Distance from Uptown Charlotte: About 20–30 miles (depending on access point)
For moms who want something a little more dramatic and scenic, Lake Norman offers breathtaking waterfront views. As the largest man-made lake in North Carolina, it gives you wide-open skies, golden sunsets, and a peaceful atmosphere, while offering a “beach” feel.
Pros:
- Stunning sunset lighting
- Waterfront aesthetic
- Less crowded than city parks
Cons:
- Requires travel outside Charlotte.
- Weather can impact sessions more.
- Spring and Summer months are busy and crowded.
Why moms love this location: Due to it’s distance Lake Norman not only feels like a mini getaway, but there’s a great opportunity to create memories, you won’t see constantly on Facebook. It’s perfect for creating those cinematic, glowing maternity photos that feel calm, peaceful, and deeply emotional.
Distance from Uptown Charlotte: Less than 5 Miles
If you want a stress-free, fully guided experience, a studio maternity photoshoot is honestly one of the best options. Everything from lighting to posing is controlled, so you don’t have to worry about weather, crowds, or timing.
Pros:
- Perfect lighting every time
- Privacy and comfort
- Access to styled setups and wardrobe options
Cons:
- No natural scenery
- Less variety but we offer premium setups
Why moms love this location:
Studio sessions are ideal if you want a luxury experience. You can focus on feeling confident and beautiful while our photographer guides you every step of the way no guessing, no stress.
Final Thoughts: Which Location Is Right for You?
